William “Billy” Bell Leaves TLA to join the Royal Navy

TLA now offer haircuts by fully Unqualified hairdressers to any of its staff wishing to serve Queen & Country!

Billy Bell joined the Bingham Warehouse gang in Summer 2017 as a Saturday helper, generally to be used for labouring and helping where required. Little did we know it would take us 3 years to get rid of him!

From the start Billy was a polite, slightly shy but hard working lad, calling people “Sir” and doing what was asked without any complaint. Over the weeks he learnt the basics (where the biscuits were, when we were having bacon butties, etc) as well as a little about the tasks undertaken in the warehouse. As the new “boy” he copped the blame for most errors (some of which were his), but progressed from simple “gofer” to checking and picking and, most importantly, head chef.

After leaving school in 2018 Billy joined TLA full time as an apprentice, working in the warehouse whilst attending college. His skills, including passing his Fork Lift Truck training, and quality of work steadily improved in equal measure to his cheek! Some of his stories were extravagant and exaggerated to say the least.

Billy moved into the “Goods In”  section to further his skills and blossomed; his knowledge of goods, understanding of the TLA Orderwise system and procedures, interaction with others, in particular delivery drivers made him a very valuable member of the TLA team. The fact that Chris from DHL and Baz from APC sought him out on his final day to wish him well pays testimony to this!

When Billy hesitantly told us he had applied to join the “Royal Navy” he was surprised to find how supportive and pleased everybody, from the MD down, was for him, wished him well and told him he would be missed and welcome back anytime.

And so the day arrived, on Friday 18th September Billy left TLA for a new life, armed with words of encouragement and advise, gifts and booze, warnings NOT to forget to visit us, we wish him well and hope that he experiences many wonderful experiences in the next stage of his life.

Oh, and if anything goes wrong this last week or so, IT’S BILLYS’ FAULT!!!!!!!!!!!!
